Light – Original South African Landscape Oil Painting

Light is a contemporary interpretation of one of South Africa’s most iconic landscapes Table Mountain.

The painting explores the way light transforms the landscape, with cascading circles of luminous colour flowing across the mountain and surrounding forms. Each circle becomes a moment of light, creating rhythm, movement and a sense of energy across the composition.

Rather than depicting Table Mountain literally, Light captures the feeling of standing before the mountain as the changing light moves across its surface. The layered circular forms create depth and a sense of optimism, inviting the viewer to pause and experience the landscape in a more abstract and expressive way.

Painted in Allison Pilling’s distinctive contemporary style, Light brings together the enduring beauty of the Cape landscape with a playful exploration of colour, movement and illumination.

Currently on view at Bonne Esperance Guest House, Stellenbosch.
